Mobile In Education: Mattel Announces Fisher-Price iXL Learning System
Mattel has announced plans to release the Fisher-Price iXL Learning System which resembles an Apple iPad -- for preschoolers. It looks to educate children using the language of mobile technology.
The iXL is a tiny computer in the form of a book, complete with speakers and a collection of apps to be interacted with using big colorful buttons. The touchscreen device comes loaded with Story Book, Note Book, Game Player, Art Studio, Music Player, and Photo Album software.
Education is an ever changing process, fueled by developments in technology and the way we work. Mattel is making sure they are on top of this evolution, chief executive Robert Eckert says that they "have invested more research and development dollars into iXL than any other product in our 2010 Fisher-Price product line and it definitely shows." Observing this, along with iPad apps for education, iPhone art classes, and "one cellphone per child," it seems that mobile devices may be the typewriter of next generation.
